This pistol is 1 of only 3,636 Colt Model 1911A1 pistols produced in 1939 for the military, with all of them shipped to the U.S. Navy Supply depot in Sewalls Point, Virginia in 4 orders. This pistol was shipped in the last group of 1,088 pistols on Dec 18, 1939. The left side of the slide is marked with the two-block 1897-1913 patent dates and address with the Rampant Colt in the center. The left side of the frame is marked with a "P" inspection mark above the magazine release and an "H" below it. The right side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No.716309" behind the slide stop hole and "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" in front of the hole. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked "60" over the Colt "VP" triangle proof and "99" on the opposite side. It has an all blue barrel marked on the left side "COLT 45 AUTO", with a single "P" on the left side of the lug and a "G" on the underside in front of the lug. The top of the slide ahead of the rear sight is marked with a "P". Checkered trigger, slide stop, thumb safety, wide spur hammer, arched mainspring housing, lanyard loop on the frame heel, blue magazine, two-tone magazine and fitted with checkered walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% plus of the original blue finish with edge and high spot wear overall with blue loss and browning on the front grip strap with the mainspring housing also having browned out with speckling on the grip safety. The grips are very good overall with nice distinct checkering on both sides showing moderate wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some heavier pressure dents and nicks/chips on the lower right side grip. Mechanically excellent. A scarce, early Pre-World War II Navy contract Colt Model 1911A1 pistol.
