Description:

This lot consists of items that were once the personal property of four star U.S. Army General John A. Wickham, Jr. General Wickham served from 1950 to 1987 in a long and distinguished Army career to include, but not limited to: Executive Officer 511th Airborne Regiments, 1st Cav. Div. (Vietnam) and later commander of the 101st Airborne Div. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Silver Star (twice) as well as the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, 11 Air Medals, 4 Legions of Merit, 8 Distinguished Service Medals and 21 foreign decorations including the Republic of Korea's highest military decoration. After the assassination of South Korean President Park Chung Hee in 1979, Wickham played a key role in calming political tension, which he wrote about in his book "KOREA ON THE BRINK". President Ronald Reagan appointed him Chief of staff of the U.S. Army, a position he held from 1983 to 1987. In his book "MY AMERICAN JOURNEY," General Colin L. Powell referred to Wickham as "my mentor" (page 402). The following Wickham related items are in the lot: 4-star general's flag with two-piece pole and base, UN HQ Command flag with two-piece pole and base, signed framed photograph of the General, ROK Presidential Unit Citation silver plate, Army Reserve Commanders Association of Appreciation for Leadership and Dedication plaque, U.S. Army Safety Community Leadership and Personal Commitment plaque, visor manufactured by Flight Ace (size 7 1/8), a copy of a letter stating the General's leadership philosophy. A gold plated General officer's belt buckle with box having belonged to Major General Stanley R. "Swede" Larsen with shipping receipt (shipped to Army Weapons Command, Rock Island Arsenal) and brown leather holster rig featuring a General officer's belt buckle having belonged to General A.C. Wedemeyer.

Rating Definition:
