Description:

This is an very nice example of a scarce late WWI Remington-UMC U.S. Army Model 1911 contract pistol. These rare pistols were manufactured in late 1918 early 1919, using their own serial number block of 1 to 21,676, with this pistol being manufactured in early 1918. This series of 1911 pistol was manufactured in total by the Remington Arms-U.M.C. Co., in Bridgeport, Connecticut with no contracted parts, with almost all of these pistols being disposed of after WWI because they did not conform to the standardization requirements for part interchangeability with the Colt Model 1911 pistol. The left side of the slide has the three line, two block markings of "PATENTED DEC.19.1905/FEB.14.1911.AUG.19.1913./COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO." followed by "MANUFACTURED BY/REMINGTON ARMS UMC CO. INC./BRIDGEPORT. CONN.U.S.A.", with the circled, "REMINGTON/UMC" logo between the two blocks. The right side of the slide has the two-line markings "MODEL OF 1911/U.S. ARMY CALIBER .45". The left side of the frame extension is stamped with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" with the final U.S. Government inspector's initials "E.E.C."/"Eagle Head/E28" Ordnance inspection mark above the magazine release button. The serial number "NO 3418" is stamped on the right side of the frame above the trigger. It is fitted with an all blued barrel with proofmarks. The rear of the slide above the firing pin stop is stamped with a single letter "E" provisional inspection mark and so is the left side of the trigger guard bow. This scarce Model 1911 is complete with one Remington two-tone blue magazine with the double pinned base plate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 99% of the restored blue finish overall. The grips are very good with distinct checkering on both sides, with even honest wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A very nice looking professionally restored Remington-UMC Model 1911 pistol.
