This is an outstanding example of an early Second Generation Single Action Army in scarce 44 special caliber. Manufactured in 1958, this revolver is 1 of only about 2,075 Second Generation Single Action Army revolvers chambered in the 44 Special caliber. According to Colt expert and researcher Don Wilkerson the 44 Special was introduced in early 1958 and ended in 1966 with only the 5 1/2 and 7 1/2 inch barrels available in the caliber. Wilkerson states that "the .44 Special revolvers are by far the rarest caliber." Collectors began buying these Second Generation revolvers and storing them as future collectors items. According to consignor notes a gun shop in Southern California, the Santa Anna Gunroom decided to purchase one example of every caliber, barrel length and finish to form a collection of dozens of Single Action Army revolvers. This revolver was one they purchased and stored for their personal collection. The barrel has the standard one-line address on top, "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44 SPECIAL" on the left and two-line, three patent dates on the left side of the frame followed by the Rampant Colt. Matching numbers, blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue with casehardened finish and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 to Santa Anna Gunroom, Santa Anna, California on October 13, 1958. Comes with the original black hinged lid box numbered to the gun. In the box is the original waxed paper, Colt warranty card, manual, "Handling the Handgun" pamphlet and cleaning brush.

Near new in original box. The box is excellent with some minor wear on the interior from the hammer. An exceptional Colt Single Action Army revolver in the scarce .44 Special caliber that looks like it just came from the factory.
