Description:

Manufactured by John Dickson & Son, this double barrel percussion rifle has rifled barrels that measure 10 gauge (the bores measure .760 and the groove diameter is .840 which is .015 under 10 gauge). The Damascus barrels feature a solid rib signed "JOHN DICKSON & SON 60 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH" and fitted with a blade front sight and three folding leaf rear sight graduated from 100 to 200. Scroll and border engraved locks, hammers and trigger guard with the locks also engraved with game scenes and the hammers also engraved with snakes. The locks are marked "JOHN DICKSON & SON." Nicely figured checkered half stock with a stag engraved patch box on the right side of the buttstock, cheekpiece, blank silver thumb escutcheon and a flat steel buttplate. Comes with a wood takedown featuring a brass handle inscribed "D. of Richmond Rifle No. 2." The case is lined with blue felt. Also with the rifle is a James Dixon & Sons single face game motif powder flask with German silver spout.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period refinished. The barrels retain 70% of the Damascus brown pattern finish with some minor to deep pitting. The trigger guard and buttplate retain nearly 97% of the blue finish. The remaining metal surfaces retain traces of case colors with the balance a smooth gray patina. The stock is very fine with a few minor handling marks and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with minor handling/storage marks, a repair near a corner lid and relined lining.
