Manufactured circa 1875 to the 1880s. This Martini Creedmoor Target Rifle was manufactured by the Providence Tool Company of Providence, Rhode Island. Several variations of this rifle were manufactured and it is estimated that less than a thousand of all types of sporting models were produced. This example of a Creedmoor rifle is equipped with dovetail mounted windage adjustable globe front sight and tang mounted long range rear sight. The one-line Providence, Rhode Island, address is stamped on the top barrel flat with "44 CAL/100GRS" stamped at the breech. The receiver is lightly engraved, with "Creedmoor" on the left side and "PEABODY & MARTINI PATENTS" on the right side. The receiver has an oval checkered thumb panel on the upper right side and a checkered trigger with sliding safety lever. Mounted with a nicely figured multi-point checkered forearm with a metal forend and pistol grip stock with a smooth shotgun style buttplate and a mounting base tang for a prone sight.

Fine. The barrel has 30% plus original blue with the balance a smooth mottled brown patina. The receiver retains much of the faded original case colors (brighter in protected areas). The wood is also fine with some scattered minor dents, dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
