Manufactured in 1886, this High Wall rifle features a 30 inch #3 octagon barrel with a folding combination front sight, filler bock in the rear sight dovetail slot and a mid-range Vernier tang mounted peep sight. The top barrel flat is marked with the standard two-line address ahead of the rear sight slot and "38-55" at the breech. The bottom of the barrel in front of the forearm is marked "3" and the lower tang is marked with the patent date directly behind the trigger and the serial number behind the lever. The barrel is blue and the receiver and lever casehardened. Mounted with deluxe nicely figured checkered walnut Schnabel forearm with an ebony forend insert and round knob pistol grip stock with ebony insert in the grip, cheek piece and late model nickel plated Swiss buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, 30 inch, #3 octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock and casehardened. The rifle was received in the warehouse on October 20, 1886 and shipped out to order number 10845 on October 22, 1886.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with 70% original blue finish on the barrel mixed with some touched up areas and scattered speckled flaking, some thinning and edge wear. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. The buttplate retains 95% original nickel finish with most of the wear concentrated on the ends of the prongs. The wood is also very fine with a few minor dings and handling marks. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
