This is an exceptional example of a desirable Winchester Model 1885 sporting low wall rifle. The included Winchester letter confirms the rifle configuration, caliber, #2 round barrel, 28 inch barrel and plain trigger. The rifle was received in the warehouse on May 7, 1902 and shipped from the warehouse on May 8, 1902 on order number 140064. The rifle is equipped with a German silver blade front sight and an elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight. The top of the barrel is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight and "22 LONG." at the breech. The underside of the barrel is stamped with the number "2." The lower tang is stamped with the October 7, 1897 patent date and the serial number. Blue finished barrel and receiver with remaining metal surfaces casehardened. Mounted on a nicely figured smooth walnut Schnabel forearm with ebony insert and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Excellent. The barrel and receiver retain 98% bright original blue finish overall. The remaining metal surfaces retain 90% original case colors.
