Description:

This Sharps-Borchardt type rifle has been expertly finished and modified for target shooting by the famous and noted gunsmith Ron Long and is patterned after the A.O. Zischang Schuetzen rifles of the 1880-1900 period. It is equipped with a wind gauge adjustable spirit level globe front sight, two Unertl type scope target blocks and an adjustable folding peep sight with an integral pedestal style mount on the tang. The heavy octagon barrel is marked "RON LONG, DENVER" and is finished rust blue. The consignor notes state the complete action was hand made by Ron Long from a solid block of steel. The internal modifications reportedly have a faster lock time than a Miller. Long also custom made the tang sight and installed his version of a Schoyen palm rest, which is extra fancy and fully adjustable. Long also made the off-hand style French walnut checkered pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and Schnabel tip forearm with ebony insert. The stock is fitted with a German silver Swiss buttplate. The casehardened frame, action, lever, and grip cap have nearly full coverage fine scroll engraving in Long's "Zischang" style. Engraving is also present on most of the remaining components including the Zischang style Swiss buttplate and screws. The screws for the action have a fire blue finish while most of the rest have been casehardened. The rifle includes a custom Ron Long made breech seater with a rosewood handle.

Rating Definition:

Near mint as custom embellished. The barrel and lower tang retain 99% of the blue finish with a few slight marks and scratches. 99% of the case colors remain with only a few slight blemishes. The buttplate has some surface color variation. The wood is also excellent with sharp checkering and only a few minor dings and marks. Mechanically excellent with outstanding engraving by a master engraver and clear barrel marking. Long's rifles are of the highest quality workmanship and are known for their superb accuracy. They are thus highly sought out. This rifle is likely one of the last ever made by Long. Has been used little and is among the finest we have ever offered.
