Description:

The 1885 Single Shot is considered by many to be one of greatest of all the John Moses Browning designs; it was also his first. The rifle was designed by Browning and initially hand made in Ogden, Utah, in 1878. It was the first of many Browning designs produced by Winchester and remains a popular target rifle to this day as it is known for its superb accuracy and reliability. Its action was so strong that the Model 1885 Single Shot was eventually produced in more calibers than any other Winchester rifle from 22 rimfire all the way up to 50 caliber centerfire. Manufactured in 1913, this Model 1885 features a highwall frame, #3 weight round barrel with a dove tailed blade front sight and the rear sight removed, and is fitted with a smooth Schnabel forearm with ebony insert and straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line Winchester address ahead of the rear sight and the nickel steel/smokeless powder marking near the breech followed by "30 U.S.". The bottom of the barrel under the forearm is marked "JPP" and "RECHAMBER 53 J.P.P.". The serial number is marked on the lower tang. It has primarily a blue finish with a casehardened buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 98% original blue finish with some minor dings and scratches. The receiver retains 95% original blue finish with edge wear, and some scattered minor spotting, dings and scratches. The buttplate has a smooth mottled brown patina. The wood is very good with scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The action is excellent, and the markings are clear. Overall, an excellent, factory rechambered Model 1853 Sporting Rifle.
