The consignor notes indicate that this pistol was possibly manufactured in Missouri and may have been produced by Carlos Gove while he lived in St. Joseph before establishing his shop in Denver. It has a rectangular gold inlaid escutcheon on the lock plate that likely once displayed the maker's mark which has since been polished away. There are no foreign proofs or other markings. It is believed to have been discovered by Frank Sellers while in Denver many years ago. The pistol has a small post front sight, light scroll engraving on most of the components aside from the barrel and is mounted on a smooth walnut stock with a German silver forend cap, single retaining key and a wooden ramrod with brass tip. Includes some consignor research including images of similar plates marked "C. GOVE".
Good. The pistol features a gray patina over most of the surfaces with some patches of minor pitting, especially near the muzzle and light scratches. The wood is also good with some small chips along the edges and several minor abrasions. Mechanically fine with clear engraving.
