Description:

This knife pistol features a German silver barrel marked with a pair of crossed scepter proofs on the upper left flat and has a fixed bead sight. It is fitted with a smooth hammer spur, folding trigger and smooth horn side panels. It has two blades: a 3 1/2 inch spear point knife blade marked "UNWIN &/RODGERS/SHEFFIELD" on the left ricasso and a 2 1/2 inch pen blade marked "NON-XLL/UNWIN&/RODGERS/SHEFFIELD". It has a pair of tweezers in the right side, a compartment in the butt and a cavity for a small bullet mold on the left side.

Rating Definition:

Good. The blades have a brown patina on the upper edges and a lighter patina near the cutting edges. The ricasso on the small blade remains bright. The barrel has a golden patina. The hammer and end of the tweezers have a dark brown patina. The left grip panel is lighter with a varied tone while the right panel is more of an olive tone overall. The nipple is partially damaged and the trigger bends slightly to the right, but it is otherwise mechanically fine with legible markings.

B) James Rodgers Non-XLL Style Percussion Knife Pistol with Horn Grips

Barrel: 3 1/4 inch octagon

Item Views: 1407
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 59
Class: Antique
Description:

The German silver barrel has two British proofs stamped on the upper left flat. The 3 1/4 inch clip point blade and 2 1/4 inch blade are marked "JAMES/RODGERS/SHEFFIELD" on the left ricasso. The smaller blade has a "V crown R" mark above the Rodgers marking. The frame construction is steel and German silver with a folding trigger and smooth horn side panels secured by rivets. The back strap has a patch box and a bullet mold is in the left panel and a pair of tweezers on the right.

Rating Definition:

Poor. The barrel, grip straps, and mold have some light wear and a slightly aged patina. The hammer has some golden brown patina and pitting. The tweezers and larger blade have been crudely repaired and have an artificial dark gray-brown patina while the smaller blade is brighter with some light pitting. The horn panels remain smooth with a small section absent on the left side rear. Mechanically fine with clear markings.
