Description:

The top of one barrel is marked "AMERICAN ARMS Co. BOSTON MASS." while the other is stamped "PAT. OCT 31. 1865 - JUNE 19. 186[?]". "41CAL" is marked on the left side of the frame above the trigger. The butt is stamped with the serial number and "J.P. LOWER". These pistols were made between 1866 and 1878, and an estimated 400 or less were chambered for the .41 rimfire cartridge. The J.P. Lower mark is the mark of firearms retailer John Prey Lower whose store was located in Denver and was reportedly frequented by many western legends and Native Americans including Kit Carson and Buffalo Bill. The two barrels are bored into a single block which then turns on an axis to line up with the firing pin. Each barrel has its own brass half-moon sight. The frame is brass plated with silver and it has a smooth spur trigger and a checkered hammer. The grips are smooth rosewood and are hand numbered to the gun on the underside of the right panel.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel assembly has faded to a smooth brown patina and has some muzzle and high edge wear. Patches of silver plating are visible on the left side of the frame at the front, around the pins on the right side and on the grip straps under the panel. The exposed brass has some minor dings and scratches and otherwise an aged patina. The grips are in fine condition with some minor dings and a slight chip on the lower edge of the left panel. Mechanically fine.
