Description:

This percussion long arm has an approximately .32 caliber rifled barrel over a 28 gauge smooth bore barrel and utilizes two "Mule Ear" hammers that are used interchangeably. The action is such that only one hammer may be used at a time with a single trigger. The top of the barrel is marked "W.ROBERTS 1857./DANSVILLE N.Y Nº 24". The lock plate is also marked "No 24" at the rear and "1857" near the center, and the lower hammer has "DANSVILLE N.Y". The lock plate, breech, and trigger guard with grip extension feature scroll engraving with a textured background, and the hammers have texture at the ends. It is equipped with a hooded front and notch rear sights on the barrel, a windage adjustable tang mounted peep sight, and a straight wrist buttstock with curved, slightly pronged, buttplate. Two ramrods are fitted along the sides of the barrels; one is finished nearly black and the other is lightly finished hardwood.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. Traces of the original brown finish and case colors remain mixed with brown and gray patina throughout. There are patches of oxidation, some minor pitting on the breech end of the lower barrel, and scattered minor nicks and scratches. The re-oiled wood is fine with glossy surfaces, a few small dings, and hairline cracks on the wrist. Mechanically fine with clear engraving and markings.
