Description:

The only markings on this Remington revolving rifle are the "131" on the bottom of the barrel, top of the loading lever, and left side of the lower tang under the stock. The loading lever is 7 inches long, and the cylinder is about 2 1/3 inch long. The trigger guard has the correct spur and curled wrist extension. The barrel is equipped with a pinched German silver blade front sight and notch rear sight (a "t" shaped impression on barrel behind the rear sight suggests it may have once had a sporting type rear sight). The top of the frame is grooved and has a round hole. The barrel was finished blue, the hammer is casehardened and the brass trigger guard/lower tang and buttplate were silver plated. It is fitted with a varnished straight wrist buttstock with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains traces of the original blue finish mixed with a brown patina. The loading lever is mostly a smooth gray with some traces of blue at the rear. The frame has a mottled gray patina with some brown and spotting. The cylinder has oxidation, a brighter drag line and some minor pitting. The brass components have an aged patina with traces of the silver plating. The revarnished stock has some cracks/repairs on the stock wrist and a few minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
