Barrel: 4 1/2 inch octagon
Finish: bright
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 2976

Description:

Manufactured c.1840. The smooth bore octagon barrel is fitted with a spring loaded 2 1/4 inch long bayonet on the underside that is released by pulling back the trigger guard; it then locks in place on a lug below the muzzle. The frame has a light floral type engraving with a round Liege "E/LG" proof on the left side and a "1" over a "crown/AF" proof on the bottom just ahead of the trigger guard. This latter proof has been recorded as the mark of Auguste Francotte. It is fitted with a one-piece, checked, bag shaped grip.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The pistol has an attractive mustard yellow coloration on the barrel/action. The hammer and trigger guard have a dark gray/brown patina with some light pitting. There is some verdigris in the edges and recessed areas. The blade remains bright with some darker spotting and small areas of light pitting. The engraving and proofs are clear. The grip is very good with crisp checkering and some light wear. The action is fine, but the snap bayonet will not stay folded nor lock in place.

Rating Definition:

Good. The brass has an attractive aged patina with some minor marks, small nicks, and various light scratches throughout. There is some verdigris on the muzzle and near the nipples. The hammer is pitted and has a dark gray patina. The grip is very good with the varnish thinned on some areas as well as some mild scrapes and light scratches. Mechanically fine with a clear marking.
