Description:

Vallee is listed as being at the Corner of Walnut and 2nd Streets in Philadelphia from 1826 to 1840. The lock, hammer and trigger guard are engraved with a broad leaf floral design with a geometric border on the lock and trigger guard. The lock is engraved "P Vallee". The top flat of the Damascus pattern barrel is engraved "P. VALLEE PHILADELPHIA". The barrel tang is engraved with the same broad leaf design and the breech plug is engraved and has a gold and silver inlaid band around the rear. Blade front and fixed notch rear sights, solid under barrel rib, adjustable trigger, decorative engraved pineapple finial and mahogany ram rod with brass tip. The barrel is finished brown, casehardened lock and hammer, and blue remaining parts. Mounted with a walnut half stock with checkered grip area and horn forend. The pair come in a period wooden case with brass plaque on the lid inscribed "H. Pratt McKean/Phila" and hunter green velvet lining. In the case is an empty Eley Bros. cap tin partially full Eley Bros., container with screw on lid, bullet seater, ram rod, bullet mold, screwdriver, powder measurer, approximately 28 round lead bullets and a powder flask.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 60% original thin brown finish with most of the Damascus pattern remaining. 40% original case colors remain on the lock, 50% on the barrel tang with the balance and the hammer having a smooth gray patina. The trigger guard retains 60% original bright blue finish with a smooth gray and brown patina on the balance. The stock is also very fine with some scattered minor dings, scratches and crisp checkering. The engraving and markings are clear. The action is fine. The case is fine with a few minor dings and scratches on the exterior, and some minor contact wear and soiling on the lining. The accessories are all very good or better.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 60% original thin brown finish with most of the Damascus pattern remaining. The hammer, lock and barrel tang have a smooth gray patina. The trigger guard retains 85% original bright blue finish with scattered flaking and a smooth brown patina on the exposed areas. The stock is fine with a minor hairline crack visible on the left side flat radiating from lock plate screw, a few minor dents and dings, and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is fine.
