Description:

The consignor notes indicate that this French flintlock was once part of Adolph Hitler's personal collection but no documentation available to support it. (we are offering this lot purely on it's own value!) This pistol is a Model AN XIII as used by the French cavalry and navy during the Napoleonic Wars. The lock plate is marked "Manuf. Imp. /De Charleville" ahead of the cock. Although some of the markings on the barrel are unclear, there is a distinct "1811" mark at an angle on the left flat. Additional markings include a small script "D" on the brass barrel band and the side plate which is also marked "N-N", a "CH* marking on the interior of the butt cap, and others. The left stock flat has a circular "EF" stamp with some unclear markings along with another clear "1811" mark. The brass furniture includes the barrel band which has an extension that connects to the side plate, the trigger guard, and butt cap. A ramrod is not included.

Rating Definition:

About good. The tangs, barrel, and lock have primarily a dark brown patina with a strip of bright metal on the barrel under the barrel band. The brass components remain mostly bright with some aged patina. The cock is pitted. The wood is very good with some scratch marks on the right side of the grip and otherwise only a few faint dings and scratches. Overall, a nice example of a pistol used during a tumultuous time in European history that may have once been owned by Hitler himself.
