Description:

This flintlock has a flat top round barrel marked "LE PAGE A PARIS" between to foliate motifs in gold fill. The right side of the barrel just ahead of the octagonal section is marked "C.10", and the barrel tang is marked "No. 21". The lock plate has "LE PAGE/*A PARIS*" surrounded by light border designs. The Le Page firm was known for their quality and accuracy. The firm held titles as royal gunmakers throughout many governmental changes, but supplied arms to the citizens during the French Revolution. Their firearms were well regarded in their day by many of the elite. The barrel has a German silver blade front sight and a dished rear sight is integral to the barrel tang. It is fitted on a wedge fastened, nearly full length stock with a checkering at the wrist and forend ahead of the lock, "duckbill" carved wrist/butt with cheek rest, horn forend cap, sling swivels, and slight curved buttplate. Aside from the barrel which is blued, the other metal surfaces are color casehardened. It includes a ramrod with flared brass tip.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 75% of the period refurbished blue finish and nearly all of the gold inlay with the significant fading/finish wear on the right side above the rear wedge which is loose. The other components retain 75% of the case colors. There are some areas of light spotting and various minor scratches and marks from use and storage. The wood is very good with a few slight repairs, sharp checkering, and a few small bruises and light scratches. Mechanically excellent with a crisp action. A very attractive Parisian flintlock rifle.
