Description:

Measuring 15 inches in overall length, the recurve Damascus steel blade is 9 3/8 inches long, with a 1 7/8" panel of gold and silver koftgari on each side near the base, with extends onto the flat oval baseplate of the grip. The grip is a single piece of carved antique ivory, shaped into an ergonomic "vase" profile and finished in copper tone paint with red and black accents. On the pommel is a three-dimensionally carved scene of a giraffe being taken down by a tiger, with both animals rendered in fine detail and painted in orange and black. The sheath is covered in green cloth, with a woven gold wire cord along the spine. Notes from the consignor state that the blade was constructed from iron taken from a meteorite.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The fine blade shows some light handling marks, with an aged patina on the silver accents, a tiny amount of spotting, and no visible voids or absences in the koftgari. The hilt is excellent, with a small amount of flaking of the paint. The carving is excellent even in the very thin leg and tail areas of the animals. The sheath is good, with mild wear and stains.
