Description:

The lock plate is dated 1859 at the rear and has the "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" marking at the front with the "eagle motif" on the lid of the Maynard tape primer compartment. The barrel has "V/P/eagle head" markings on the left barrel flat at the breech and "1861" on top. It features a blade front sight and folding leaf rear sight marked "1", "3", and "5". The full length stock has a faint cartouche on the left flat, two barrel bands marked with the letter "U" as opposed to the usual three, an iron patch box and a "US" marked buttplate. The top of the rear barrel band is marked "D/35". It includes an iron ramrod with tulip head and swelled shank.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The iron components remain mostly bright with some spotting and slight pitting along with minor scratches and some vice type marks on the barrel flats. The heavily sanded and refinished wood is fair with a few chips and minors dings. Mechanically fine with clear markings.
