Description:

This revolver was manufactured by Rogers & Spencer of Willow Dale, New York, in 1865 as part of a contract with the Ordnance Department for 5800 revolvers. It has a brass cone front sight and frame groove rear sight. The revolver has a high polish blue finish on the barrel, frame and cylinder, casehardened loading lever, hammer and trigger and oil finished, two piece walnut grips. The top strap is marked: "ROGERS & SPENCER/UTICA N-Y". The matching serial number is located on the loading lever, underside of the barrel, cylinder, left side of the frame, and the underside of the grips. Ordnance "B" sub-inspection marks are stamped on the barrel, frame, cylinder, hammer, trigger guard and grips. There is an "RPB" inspector's cartouche on the left grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. 20% of the blue finish remains with the majority flaked or worn and a streaked brown patina and gray patina in its place. There is a drag line on the cylinder. Some of the case colors remain on the loading lever. The grips are very good with a clear cartouche, handling type marks, and a large gouge of wood absent from the right panel. Mechanically fine with clear markings.
