Description:

Measuring 32 inches overall, the cutlass is fitted with a 26 inch long curved single fuller blade, with the Ames "scroll" makers mark on the left ricasso and the right showing an anchor stamp over "1862", with no visible inspector mark. The hilt is brass construction, with "15M/294" on the underside of the guard, the proper riveted basket guard, a helmet shaped pommel and a ribbed leather grip. With a black leather scabbard outfitted with a brass frog stud and brass and copper rivets.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The fine blade is bright overall, with some areas of darker gray patina, mild dings and a small amount of pitting. A well aged patina is present on the brass, with a few dings, mild cracking of the leather, and the wire wrap absent. The scabbard is fair.
