Description:

Manufactured circa 1863-1875, the New Model Army was one of the major handguns of the Civil War. This example was later converted to fire 44 rimfire cartridges after the war. The cylinder is marked with Rollin White's patent marking "PATENTED APR 3'd 1855" on the side, and the top barrel flat is marked: "PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858/E.REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. NEW YORK. U.S.A/NEW-MODEL". The matching serial number "93502" along with "378" and "198" are located on the bottom barrel flat and on the grip straps. The right side of the rear strap is marked "198", and the right side of the frame is marked "CA 49" in front of the cylinder. Several small one letter inspection marks are visible on various components. It features a pinched blade front sight, grooved top strap, and an ejector mounted on the right side. It has a blued finish with a casehardened hammer and brass trigger guard. The smooth walnut grips are hand marked with various numbers including "CA/49".

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 85% of the factory blue finish remains with a gray-brown patina on the faded areas. More than half of the dark case colors remain on the side of the hammer. The brass has an aged patina. There are various minor scratches and marks throughout including a drag line on the cylinder. The grips are fine with a few slight dings and minor chips. Mechanically excellent.
