The New Model 3 dominated target competitions in the late 1800s. This example manufactured circa1878-1880 has target sights and checkered hard rubber grips (dual numbered one set crossed out and the other is matching). It is marked with the address and patent information on the rib and matching serial number on the barrel, latch, rear cylinder face and the butt. It has a nickel plated finish with a casehardened hammer and trigger guard. This revolver is chambered in the origional Smith & Wesson 38-44 Target (BP) cartridge.

Very fine. 80% of the original nickel plating remains with gray or golden patina on the exposed surfaces. The hammer and trigger guard retain 75% of the original case colors with a gray patina on the balance. The grips are very fine with some light aging. Mechanically excellent with clear markings.
