This is one of 600 Colt Model 1877 Double Action Revolvers shipped to the Philippines in 1902. They were sent to the Insular Purchasing Agent E.G. Shields in Manila as the U.S. was working to shift control of the Philippine Islands from Army to civilian control. As detailed in the included letter from Don Wilkerson, these revolvers are very seldom seen in the United States. Wilkerson had only seen four during his study of Colt revolvers. The included factory letter confirms that this "COLT DOUBLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER" was shipped on in its current configuration on February 26, 1902, to Manila with 250 guns. Based on the letters, it appears this is the first revolver made for the second shipment. Also included is a survey form detailing the revolver's attributes. It has round blade front and frame groove rear sights, bullseye ejector rod head, standard markings including matching serial numbers, and is fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt on each side. Included with the revolver is a holster and rig with a "P.C." belt buckle (indicating Philippine Constabulary use). The holster flap is marked "ROCK ISLAND/ARSENAL/[unclear]".

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% of the original blue finish and nearly all of the case colors with some holster and handling type wear and various minor marks and scratches. The grips are very good with some smoothed sections to the otherwise crisp checkering and a few minor nicks and scrapes. Mechanically excellent with crisp markings. The holster and rig are both very fine for their age and use. Overall, a rare complete set connected to an important period in Filipino and American history.
