Description:

This is a very scarce and probably a "one-of-a-kind", pair of Colt pre-war/post-war single action army pistols that were specifically given to the Industrialist Walter E. Ditmars President of Gray Manufacturing company, circa 1950/54, by then Colt Mfg. Co. President, B.F. Conners. These pre-war/post-war Colt SAAs are very desirable as they were the last 1st generation single action army pistols manufactured, which were later assembled and sold post WWII in the late 1940s and early 1950s. This beautiful like new Colt SAA is accompanying by a factory letter verifying the exact configuration of this pistol as noted, that was shipped to the VP of Colt, P.W. Schwartz, specifically for Mr. Ditmars in Feb 1950 in a "1" gun shipment. The pistol is just a standard configuration, however it is in like new and probably unfired condition with the Colt high quality deep blued finish with the beautiful, deep dark hues on the casehardened frame and loading gate. The top of the barrel has the one-line address "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." and the left side of the barrel is marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 45". The left side of the frame has the two-line/three-patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The front left side of the trigger guard has the Colt triangle "VP" proof with a single "F" proof on the rear. It is fitted with a set of hard rubber checkered grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. Since this is a late first generation Colt SAA, the matching serial number is located on the underside of the frame, the right side of the grip strap and trigger guard, the back sides of each grip panel with the last two digits "70" on the back side of they cylinder. The rear of the frame and loading gate have the matching assembly number, "102". This rare set of presentation Colt SAAs is accompanied by a binder with considerable documentation and photographs of B.F. Conners with Walter Ditmars. A short note on Walter E. Ditmars, he originally managed the Wall Street brokerage firm of Fenner & Beane, investing with William C. Durant. Later he assumed the presidency of Gray Manufacturing Company, who was one of the early manufacturer of Paystation telephones and audiograph and dictating recording machines.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus with 99% of the original blue and vivid, casehardened finish on the frame. The grips are also in the same excellent plus condition. Just and outstanding example of a pre-war/post-war Colt single action army revolver.

B) Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Manufacturer: Colt
Model: Single Action Army
Type: Revolver
Gauge: 45 Long Colt
Barrel: 5 1/2 inch round
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grip: hard rubber
Stock:
Item Views: 2233
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 148
Class: Curio & Relic Handgun
Description:

This is the second revolver of the rare, original set of Colt pre-war/post-war single action army pistols, presented specifically to the Industrialist Walter E. Ditmars President of Gray Manufacturing company, circa 1954, by then Colt Mfg. Co. President, B.F. Conners. This beautiful like new Colt SAA is also accompanied by a factory letter verifying the exact configuration of this pistol as listed and again which was shipped to the Vice President of Colt, P.W. Schwartz, specifically for Mr. Ditmars in March 1954 in a "1" gun shipment. The fabulous revolver matches the previous pistol in its overall condition and configuration. The top of the barrel has the one line address "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. This rare, first generation Colt SAA, has all matching serial numbers on the underside of the frame, right side of the grip strap and trigger guard, the back sides of each grip panel with the last two digits "94" on the back side of they cylinder. The rear of the frame and loading gate have the matching assembly number, "488".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus of the original blue finish with just a hint of a drag line on the cylinder, with some very, very, minor small pin-prick size, light rust just starting to develop on the rear of the barrel in front of the frame, (probably from lack of oiling) but no evidence of having been fired. The frame and loading gate also retain 98% plus of their deep dark case colors overall, also with just a hint of that same, very light minor rust spotting just starting to develop on the front and rear edges of the frame cutout, where the barrel meets the frame and at the front of the cylinder. The hard rubber grips are also in excellent condition. Again this is probably one of the most unique pre-war/post-war Colt SAAs we have ever offered for sale.
