From 1895 to 1903 a number of "US" marked Single Action Army revolvers like this one were returned to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory where they were modified to 5 1/2 inch barrel length, dismantled and refinished, often with little regard to which gun the refinished parts came from, resulting in a mix of serial numbers and markings. (Writer believes this SAA to be a Colt factory rework). These revolvers have a 5 1/2 inch barrel, casehardened frame and blue cylinder, grip frame and barrel. The serial numbers are mixed on these altered models and they were remarked by inspectors of the era. This revolver is serial numbered "10757" on the frame, "56109" on the trigger guard, and "120503" on the back strap. There is a "P/D.F.C." on the underside of the barrel and "6348" under the ejector housing. The cylinder is numbered "693". Standard one-line address on top of the barrel and the three line, three patent date marking on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S.". The loading gate is numbered "339". There is a period stamped upside-down "M" on the right side of the frame and an "M" on the back strap (significance unknown). It has the early bullseye style ejector rod head, standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and is fitted with smooth one-piece walnut grips with a faint cartouche on the right side and "RAC" stamped on the bottom of each side.

Fine. The barrel and ejector housing retain 50% of the blue finish with thinning and a smooth gray patina along the outer edge of the ejector housing. The cylinder has a mix of blue finish (strongest in the flutes) and smooth gray patina. The grip straps have a smooth gray patina and the trigger guard retains most of the blue finish in protected areas. The frame shows 60% faded case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The grip is very good with some wear and chips on the lower edges and overall a pleasant hand rubbed patina. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
