Description:

The included factory letter indicates that this revolver was shipped to John P. Lower in Denver, Colorado, on February 8, 1879, in its current configuration. Lower's shop in Denver was one of the best known in the country and was frequented by many Western legends including Buffalo Bill Cody, Kit Carson, and influential Native American leaders. Lower is said to have considered Smith and Wesson, Samuel Colt, Christian Sharp, and other influential firearms pioneers among his close friends. This excellent revolver has the standard two line Hartford barrel address on the top of the barrel and "COLT. D.A. 41" on the left side. The three line, three patent dates are marked on the left side of the frame. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "782". It has half moon blade front and frame notch rear sights, nickel plated finish with niter blued small parts, and a smooth, "one piece" grip. Also included is a survey form that details the various attributes and is marked "Return to: Bruce E. Skinner" near the bottom.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% of the original nickel plating and 75% of the original niter blue finish with some overall light handling marks, a few minor scratches, and some bright metal just ahead of the breech on both sides. The grip is also very fine with an attractive mix of creamy and golden yellow tones. Mechanically excellent with crisp markings.
