Description:

The top strap of this revolver is marked "JOHN BLISSETT & SON/322 HIGH HOLBORN/LONDON". John Blissett & Son were 19th century gunmakers and retailers in England starting off only under John Blissett circa 1832 and changed to John Blissett & Son circa 1867. The firm joined with William James Tomes circa 1877-1878 and then became Tomes & Co. in 1883 when Tomes took over completely. The address places the date of manufacture of this gun circa 1867-1875. The left side of the frame is marked "THOMAS'S PATENT No. 779/No.850". The barrel is marked "450" on the upper left flat and "CAST STEEL" on the left flat. The cylinder is also marked "CAST STEEL". The serial number "817" is marked on the bottom of the barrel, on the cylinder pin head, and rear cylinder face. The revolver barrel rotates and brings the cylinder forward to eject spent cartridges. It is equipped with post front and integral notch rear sights and is fitted with a checkered walnut grip and lanyard loop.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 80% plus of the high polish blue finish with brown and gray patina on the balance with a bright cylinder drag line and some light scratches. The grip is also very fine with some small dings in the otherwise sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent with mostly clear markings.
