Description:

Measuring 34 3/4 inches overall with a 29 1/2 inch blade and a gold/brass finished alloy hilt, bearing the Nazi eagle on the right guard and languet, oak leaf decoration, a wire wrapped celluloid grip and a red eyed lion head pommel. The blade is decorated with 12 inches of vine etching on the spine and 12 inches of interwoven etched patterns on each side and the right side marked "Ehrendegen/Jager Regiment zu Pferde No. 6" (Honor Sword/Mounted Rifle Regiment Number 6). Organized in 1910 from squadrons donated from other mounted regiments, the 6th was headquartered in Erfurt, and saw active combat on the both the Eastern and Western Fronts in the First World War. After the war the unit was partially disbanded but saw action during several of the post-War disruptions of the new Weimar Republic including the Christmas Night Battle of 1918 and the Spartacist Uprising of 1919. In 1921, with the unit fully disbanded, it's symbols and traditions were handed over to a squadron of another cavalry regiment. It has a green leather portapee, silver acorn, enamel finished sheath and a copy of a letter from a previous owner detailing its sale to the family of the consignor.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall, with some light handling marks overall. The portapee and sheath show mild scuffing. The circumstances behind this World War One blade being mounted in this World War Two hilt are unknown; it may have been used by a descendant of a member of the 6th Regiment or a member of the Regiment whose career continued into the Nazi era.
