Description:

This is a U.S. Springfield Model 1903 bolt action rifle that was manufactured by the Springfield Armory in 1907. The receiver is a blue finish as are the barrel, barrel bands and sights. The top of the receiver has the standard Springfield Armory markings with the barrel roll-marked: "S A/Ordnance Bomb/05". This rifle was originally manufactured as a 30-03 and was subsequently converted to 30-06 using an earlier 1905 dated barrel. The barrel is fitted with the standard blade front sight with the military tangent rear sight with 2750 yard volley notch, dished rear sight elevation knob and dished windage knob. It has the standard milled components, barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate and a smooth trigger. It has the block style letter markings on the safety and magazine cut-off. It is fitted with the standard straight grip stock with grasping grooves, a high hump hand guard with no sight groove, and a smooth uncheckered buttplate with trapdoor. The left side of the stock has a boxed "E.L.H." cartouche and the standard "P" proof mark (non-script) is stamped in the pistol grip area. It is fitted with a later bolt that is marked on the safety lug "S29". It includes a early 1907 pattern commercial leather sling

Rating Definition:

Very fine as reassembled with 85% plus original blue finish showing a burnishing mark on the receiver ring, scattered handling marks and small areas of edge wear mixed with some small areas of light gray patina primarily on the exposed receiver and bolt. There is a small area of very fine rust spotting starting on the bolt handle. The stock is excellent with attractive grain, clear markings with minor handling marks and light pressure indentations/scratches on the sides above the trigger guard bow. Mechanically excellent. This is a low numbered 1903 rifle.
