The included factory letter notes that this revolver, identified as serial number X24065, "was developed to test the feasibility of using the flattop/roundtop frame configuration in Model P production." The letter also confirms the blue and case color finishes, barrel length, caliber, and notes that it has special features including "a high profile sight and an Elliason rear sight." Although this gun was kept for reference purposes, it was shipped to a collector in 1996. The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT NEW FRONTIER S.A.A. .45", and the top is marked with the one-line address. The left side of the frame has the standard two-line, three-date patent information followed by the Rampant Colt. The "X24065" is marked on the right side of the frame and on the butt, and "X24" is marked on the bottom of the frame. It is fitted with black checkered grips with the Rampant Colt emblem up top and the American Eagle motif at the bottom. Includes a unmarked, blue, factory hardcase. A small circular tag is attached to the trigger guard and reads "PLEASE/ CHK WITH/ H. WATERMAN/ BEFORE ISSUE [underlined]/P.E. ENGRS/EXPECTED" on one side and "RT/FT 'P'/ [underlined]/RETAIN/IN/PROD ENGR" on the other.

Excellent. The revolver retains 99% plus of the original blue and rich case colors with some light handling marks and a faint cylinder drag line. The grips are near new. It is mechanically excellent, but the included letter notes: "This gun is not necessarily in serviceable condition. Consequently, it should never be loaded." The is an excellent and unique revolver sure to be a great addition for the winning collector.
