This is an outstanding example of an early Second Generation Single Action Army in scarce 44 special caliber. Manufactured in 1958, this revolver is one of only 1,129 Second Generation Single Action Army revolvers chambered in the 44 Special caliber with a 5 1/2 inch barrel and blue finish. Only a total of 2,075 were produced in 44 Special in both barrel lengths and finishes. According to Colt expert and researcher Don Wilkerson the 44 Special was introduced in early 1958 and production ended in 1966. It was only offered with 5 1/2 or 7 1/2 inch barrels. Wilkerson states that "the .44 Special revolvers are by far the rarest caliber." Collectors began buying these Second Generation revolvers and storing them as future collectors items. The barrel has the standard one-line address on top, "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44 SPECIAL" on the left, and the two-line, three patent dates on the left side of the frame followed by the Rampant Colt. It features matching numbers, blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened frame, and is fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. It comes with the original, numbers matching black factory box with correct end label. In the box is a manual.

Near new with very faint cylinder rotation marks and slight handling/storage marks. The box is very good with some minor wear on the edges. You will not find one of these rare revolvers in better condition!
