This excellent pair of nickel Single Action Army revolvers was manufactured in 1970. The factory letter confirms they were shipped as a consecutively numbered pair in their current configuration to China Grove Gun Tackle Shop in China Grove, North Carolina, in April 1971 as part of order #11980. They have the standard markings and features of the 2nd Generation revolvers. Don Wilkerson in "THE POSTWAR COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY, 1955-1975" notes that there were only 222 nickel consecutive pairs of 2nd Generation SAA produced and of those only 65 special order consecutive sets are recorded in .45 with 5 1/2 inch barrels. Only a total of 1,396 nickel plated .45 2nd Generation Single Action Army revolvers were produced in the 5 1/2 inch barrel length. The revolver is fitted with smooth walnut grips. The "VP" in a triangle proofmark is marked on the front left of the trigger guard, a "V" on the back left, and an "P" is on the front right of the trigger guard. The frame and grip straps are stamped with the matching number "55640SA", and the partial "640" is marked on the face of the cylinder and underside of the grips. The loading gate and right rear of the frame have the assembly number "900". The factory stagecoach box is fitted to the gun and contains the manual.

Excellent. The revolver has only light handling and storage marks along with some faint scratches. The box is very good with some shelf wear.
