Description:

The various marks of the Webley revolver were the standard service revolver for the British armed forces from the late 19th century into the 1960s. Officially adopted 5 October 1897, most of the Mark III Webley revolvers were not issued aside from a group with the "broad arrow" acceptance stamps on the top straps that were issued to the Navy. This nickel plated example was made c. 1897-1899 and featured fine scroll and geometric engraving patterns over most of the surfaces. The top strap is marked "LONDON ARMOURY Co Ltd/114 QUEEN VICTORIA St LONDON". The left side of the top strap is marked "MARK 'III' 38", and the lower left side of the frame has a bullet with wings over "W&S". The right side is marked with the serial number and "WEBLEY/PATENTS. "182" is marked on the bottom of the barrel lug and on the rear face of the cylinder, and there are several small British proofmarks throughout. It has a raised round blade front sight and a notch rear sight that is part of the barrel latch.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 90% of the nickel plating with some slight spots of brass visible and some brown patina most notably on the grip straps and butt. The slightly undersize grips are very good with some small scratches and a crack in the bottom of the left panel. The markings and engraving remain sharp and clear, and the action is excellent.
