Description:

Manufactured in 1864, this Model 5 "Root" revolver has the two-line New-York, U.S.A. address on the top of the barrel, a fluted cylinder marked with the patent date, and is fitted with a smooth grip. Scroll engraving covers the rear third of the barrel, the rear section of the loading lever, nearly all of the frame, the raised edges of the cylinder, the sides of the hammer, the butt, and the top and bottom of the grip strap. A series of nine punch dots are present on the hammer spur. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel (faint) and on the butt. It has the standard bead front and frame groove rear sights. It includes a partitioned wood case with purple velvet lining that contains a "COLT'S PATENT" bullet mold and powder flask, an Eley Bros. labeled cap tin, a key, a reproduction screwdriver marked "Col. Saml Colt" and a false pack of cartridges for display purposes. The included factory letter indicated that no factory information is available for this revolver.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period replated. The revolver retains 95% plus of the nickel finish with some spots of oxidation and light pitting. The grip is very good with a small chip on the left side near the bottom along with some slight aged cracks on the butt. Mechanically fine with legible markings. Mold is fine with traces of blue. Flask is fair. Case is very good with very good faded original lining.
