Description:

This is an example of a Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver that was manufactured in 1857. The serial number falls into the range of the Third Model, and it has the appropriate small trigger guard. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy Battle scene. The barrel has a silver plated brass front blade sight and is marked "-- ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT.--" on the top flat and "COLTS / PATENT" marked on the left front of the frame. The full serial number is stamped on the bottom of the barrel, frame, cylinder and butt. The partial serial number"6399" on the wedge and cylinder pin. It is fitted with a one-piece varnished walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The revolver primarily displays a mottled brown patina with some traces of the blue finish and some case colors still visible on the loading lever. The trigger guard and grip straps have an aged patina on the exposed brass. There is a brighter drag line on the cylinder. The markings including the cylinder scene remain legible. Mechanically fine. The grip is good with the varnish thinned in some areas and several small scratches and dings.
