Winchester's first rifle equipped with a non-detachable box magazine, this model was introduced to meet demand for hunting weapons that could handle more powerful smokeless powder cartridges. According to the included copy of the original factory letter it confirms the rifle configuration, caliber, shotgun butt rubber, and that it was received at the warehouse on September 6, 1902 and was shipped out on September 8, 1902, order number 158431. The barrel features a raised dovetail front sight and rear semi-buckhorn sporting sight. The barrel is marked "MANUFACTURE BY THE/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A-", two-line nickel steel/smokeless powder marking, and "35 W.C.F." at the breech. The receiver has contoured sides and is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PAT. NOV. 5. 95. NOV. 12. 95. AUG. 17. 97. JAN. 25. 98. AUG. 23. 98." with the upper tang marked "-WINCHESTER/MODEL 1895.-" The serial number marked on the lower tang behind the lever latch. The barrel, receiver, magazine, and lever have a blue finish. The hammer is casehardened with a border line knurling. The trigger, lever latch, and bolt extractor are a bright niter blue. Mounted on a smooth walnut Schnabel forearm with ebony insert and a straight grip stock with a checkered hard rubber Winchester shotgun buttplate.

Excellent. The rifle retain 97% plus of the original blue finish with some muzzle wear and some scattered scratches overall. The hammer has vivid case color with some smooth gray patina. The trigger, lever latch, bolt extractor, and magazine follower retain the bright niter blue. The markings are crisp and clear. The wood is very fine with some minor handling/storage marks and a few bruises overall. A truly exceptional documented special order Winchester model 1895 that would be difficult to improve upon.
