This is an exceptional example of a highly desirable antique Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Fancy Sporting Takedown Rifle with monogrammed receiver. The rifle is accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter that describes as "Type: Rifle, Caliber:30, Barrel Type: Octagon, Trigger: Set, Checkered Stock, Pistol Grip" and "Takedown". The letter states that this rifle was shipped from the Winchester warehouse on October, 27, 1897. The rifle has a blued finish on the octagon barrel, magazine, forearm cap, receiver, and bolt. The hammer, lever and crescent buttplate are casehardened. The forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured, fancy grain, walnut with a high polish piano finish and "Style H" checkering. The pistol grip has a black, hard rubber, cap embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.". The barrel has a sporting style front sight with nickel-silver blade and a special order "Winchester Express" rear sight with three folding leaves and platinum sight lines. The receiver has a factory double set trigger. A Lyman folding combination rear sight is mounted on the receiver tang. A stylized "A" monogram is engraved on the left side of the receiver. The monogram appears to be factory engraved. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line legend "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight. "30 W.C.F." is stamped on the top of the barrel in front of the take-down collar. The serial number, "27656" is stamped across the bottom of the receiver.

Excellent. The rifle retains 97% plus of the original blue, casehardened and exceptional piano varnish finish and shows only very minimal handling and storage wear. The markings, including the receiver monogram, are crisp. The checkered panels have only very limited handling wear. Mechanically excellent. This is an excellent example of a scarce Model 1894 Fancy Sporting Rifle with special order sights and set-triggers.
