Description:

This is an example of a early 20th century "Northwest" trade gun was produced by The Barnett Company of England who made firearms for more than three hundred years. This late example features the classic serpentine/dragon side plate that Native people looked for when trading for arms designed for use with shot or ball with a front sight. The lock plate is marked "BARNETT/LONDON/1900" in front of the hammer with a proofmark with a seated fox and "EB" below behind the hammer. The tombstone with a Sitting Fox over E.B. was used by Edward Bond to mark Hudson's Bay Company Trade Guns. The butt has "1/6/28" carved on the right side. Also fitted with enlarged trigger and guard for winter use, brass ramrod pipes, and brass buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel, action and trigger guard have an attractive smooth crisp dark patina showing some pitting and oxidation. There is a cut on the barrel tang in-line with the screw and into the stock. The brass has an aged patina. The stock is good with a number of pressure dents, cuts, and scratches, rough carving and pieces missing from the right buttstock, and some scattered coral or orange flecks throughout . Mechanically fine.
