Description:

This blunderbuss has a part octagon part round flared barrel marked "P.LORD." on the upper left flat followed by "1817." on the stock. The lock plate is marked "S. Wallis". A Stephen Wallis of Birmingham appears in the records circa 1815 and is very likely the maker of this classic naval style blunderbuss. It is equipped with a snap bayonet with 11 inch long blade and is fitted on a straight wrist stock with detailed checkering on the wrist. Most of the fittings are brass and have light floral engraving patterns. The trigger guard has an acorn finial. It includes a short, replacement ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The brass components have an aged patina with some spots, scratches and marks. The lock and bayonet have a dark gray patina with light pitting. A small section of the lock plate is absent at the front. The hammer screw is a replacement and the front one quarter inch of the lock plate is absent. The revarnished wood is about good with some cracks, chips, repairs, scrapes, and dings. Mechanically fine with legible markings.
