Description:

Measuring 37 1/4 inches long, the "GR" cipher and the style of Royal Arms on the sword suggest manufacture between 1801 and 1816, during the reign of King George III. The curved single fuller blade is 32 5/8 inches long, with the lower half finished in blue and showing gold filled engraving, with floral patterns, the "GR" cipher and the 1801-1816 style Royal Coat of Arms. Gilt finished brass hilt, with a fancy pierced-through guard with the George cipher on the knuckle bow, a wire wrapped sharkskin grip, and a lion head pommel with a ring for a saber knot. With a gilt brass fitted black leather scabbard.

Rating Definition:

Good. The very good blade shows a mixed bright gray patina overall, with some traces of the blue finish, scattered spotting and mild handling marks overall. The hilt is very good, with over 70% of the original gilt finish, a fine aged patina on the visible brass, some looseness in the wire and play in the guard, and fine detail in the decoration. The scabbard is good, with cracking and scuffing of the leather, and a number of dents on the fittings.
