Description:

This muzzle loading side by side shotgun has 12 gauge damascus barrels. The right lock plate is marked with "Lubrulie & Jucquelin" and the left plate is marked "a la Nouvelle Orleans" also in script (it may have been used as a private weapon by a Confederate soldier). Labudie and Jaquelin are known to have owned a hardware store at 59 Old Levee Street in New Orleans in the 1830's and operated as retail agents. Both plates have some light border engraving. The hammers and tangs as well as the German silver trigger guard, forend cap/ramrod pipe, and buttplate have relief engraving. It has a single bead on the front sight of the solid rib and double triggers. The half-stock has carved face on the bottom, cheek rest with a floral engraving behind it, and checkering at the wrist and forend which also German silver wedge escutcheons (the front right escutcheon is absent). Includes a wooden ramrod with brass tip. Length of pull is around 13 1/2 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The Damascus pattern is visible on the barrels and solid rib with a mixture of oxidation, pitting, and brown patina. The lock plates have a dark gray patina with some pitting and oxidation. The German silver components have nice engraving and an aged silver patina. The wood is good with the checkering smoothed and some minor scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
