Description:

This double barrel shotgun is marked with two unclear impressions on the shortened barrels at the breech and "INVENTION - PICHERAU; BREVETEE A PARIS." gold inlaid on the rib between two foliate motifs and uses a unique breech loading mechanism in which the upper portion of the breech assembly hinges upwards towards the barrels to allow for faster reloading. "138" is marked on the inside of the upper and lower sections of breech assembly. There is a single round bead front sight and it is fitted on a straight wrist half stock with checkering on the forend and wrist, a sling swivel stud on the bottom of the butt, a tap in the ramrod pipe for a second swivel stud, and a flat shotgun buttplate. There is light engraving on the various screws and some border engraving on some of the parts. It includes a wooden ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The shortened barrels have a dark patina with some of the Damascus patterns still visible. Nearly all of the gold inlay remains on the barrel markings. The breech mechanism has a mottled gray patina. There are spots of pitting and various minor scratches and marks throughout. The stock is fair with some cracks, scrapes, chips, and repairs. Mechanically needs some attention.
