Description:

This large smooth bore gun is marked "D. EGG/LONDON" at the breech indicating it was produced by the shop of Durs Egg of London who operated in London circa 1770-1834. The bore measures just over 7/8 of an inch or approximately 6 bore. It has a gold band at the breech and golden oval inlay on the unmarked lock plate. The barrel has a single bead front sight (mostly worn away) and a small dished out section at the breech serves as a rear sighting groove. The barrel also has a lightly engraved star burst design in the rear section and the barrel tang is engraved. The trigger guard has a grip extension and engraved finial. It is fitted on a walnut half stock with checkered wrist, slightly raised cheek rest, and shotgun buttplate. It includes a replacement wooden ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Fair. Most of the surfaces have a mottled brown patina with some light pitting. Nearly all of the gold band at the breech remains. The buttplate and trigger guard have rough oxidation. The rib for the ramrod is bent and partially detached. The stock is fair with partially crisp checkering, some small chips and cracks, minor scrapes, a crack extending from the ramrod entry pipe to the trigger guard finial, and a crack along the left flat. Mechanically excellent with legible markings.
