The lock plate of this rifle has a scene of a dog and duck just behind the hammer with "J H GOLCHER" further towards the rear and a foliate design at the tail. The very heavy part octagon barrel (the rifle is nearly 20 pounds!) is unmarked and has three taps for scope mounting along with a mounting block in the front sight dovetail. The muzzle has four holes for an absent false muzzle. It has double set triggers. The upper tang also has three empty taps and some light engraving patterns. It is fitted with a straight wrist walnut half stock with German silver furniture including the trigger guard with grip extension.

Fair with some alterations. The barrel and back action lock plate have a brown patina with pitting on the replacement hammer and breech. The German silver furniture has a gray or slightly golden patina from varnish. The sanded and re-oiled stock is fine with some small dings and minor scrapes along with a chip on the toe. Mechanically fine with clear markings.
