This lot consists of two matching Smith & Hyslop/W.A. Hart percussion pistols. Smith & Hyslop of New York has been cited as a maker of percussion locks. The brown Damascus finished barrel is fitted with fixed sights and has "W.A. HART" deeply struck signature on the top flat at the breech. A silver band is inlaid on the barrel at the breech. The lock plate features a game bird engraved scene at the rear and is signed "SMITH &/HYSLOP/NEW YORK/WARRANTED" ahead of the hammer. The hammer and barrel tang feature a floral engraving. The trigger guard exhibits an engraved game bird inside a border. The half stock has a flared butt with border engraved silver inlaid plate, horn forend cap, checkering on the grip area, a silver thumb escutcheon and a single barrel wedge with silver oval escutcheons. The wood ramrod has a horn tip. The wood case has brass corner protectors, handle and ornate inlay on the lid. The case is partitioned for both pistols and accessories. The following accessories are included: cleaning rod, two percussion cap tins, single bullet mold, plain powder flask and a screwdriver.

Very good plus. The barrel retains 40% faded original brown Damascus. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina with the trigger guard retaining some areas of faded original blue finish. The stock is very good with a minor crack near the lock plate, a few cracks along the grain, a wood filled repair and some minor handling marks. Overall the checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent. The extension of the case is refurbished with a wood filled repair on the lid, minor high spot wear on the lining and some minor handling/storage marks.
