Description:

This Second Model Maynard manufactured during the Civil War is one of only approximately 20,000 produced. The three-line "MASS. ARMS CO." address is on the right front of the frame, and the four-line Maynard "1851/1859" patent information is marked on the left side. The barrel, hammer, trigger and buttplate are blue. The frame and lever are casehardened. It is equipped with a pinched front sight and a three leaf folding rear sight. The serial number appears on the lower tang. The walnut straight grip stock has a boxed "GWL" cartouche on the left side wrist horizontally and a boxed script "JM" vertically. There are some single letter inspection marks throughout.

Rating Definition:

Fine. This carbine retains 70% of the thinning blue finish and 40% of the case colors. The balance on the frame has a mottled dark gray patina with some brown patina visible on the barrel. The buttplate has mostly a brown patina. The markings are all crisp. The stock is very fine with clear cartouches, some light scratches, and minor pressure dents. Mechanically excellent.
