Description:

Manufactured circa 1862-1865, this "Zouave" rifle has a blade front sight and faint marks were the rear sight should be. It is dated "1863" on the breech near the "V/P/eagle head" markings and has "STEEL R.K.A" on the left flat and a bayonet lug on the right side near the muzzle. It has a casehardened lock plate marked "1863" behind the hammer with the "eagle motif/U.S." and "REMINGTON'S ILION. N.Y." at the front. It has a blued barrel and straight grip stock with brass furniture including the brass patch box which contains a replacement nipple and two cartouches on the left flat. It includes a tulip head ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Poor. The bored out barrel is mostly a lightly pitted brown patina and some brighter wear near the breech. The rear sight is absent and the dovetail filled. The brass furniture remains mostly bright while the lock plate has some brighter surfaces. There are patches of pitting throughout along with some minor marks and scratches. The stock is about good with some minor scrapes and dings. There are a couple small cracks/chips near the breech. Mechanically fine with mostly legible markings (some white filled).
